The Second Symposium of the Immunology & Therapeutic Evaluation Department

Under the auspices of Prof. Wafaa Kandeel, TBRI President and Chairman of Board of Directors, the Immunology and Therapeutic Evaluation Department, TBRI organized a scientific meeting within the framework of the MOU established in 2016 between TBRI & University of Basque Country in Bilbao, Spain under the theme of "Hepatogastroenterology Diseases: Etiology, Pharmacological Hallmarks and Therapeutics Targets" on 15  January,2019 on the sidelines of a visit of Prof. Iker Badiola (Spanish MOU coordinator), Professor of Cell Biology and Histology, Faculty of Medicine and Nursing, University of the Basque Country, Spain  and Prof. Lucia Gallego, Professor of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine & Nursing, University of Basque Country, Spain. The scientific meeting was arranged to discussmicrobiota and liver diseases, hepatic stellate cells: Relevance in fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, cell based therapy in chronic liver disease, promising anti-fibrotic effects of iron chelators: Implication of iron, homeostasis; and inflammatory and fibrotic mediators,novel liver metastasis marker based on tumour microenvironment,PNPLA3 and IL28B as early predictors of advanced fibrosis and HCV Susceptibility, diagnostic efficacy of miRNAs in chronic HCV infection and molecular and immunohistochemical detection of Cryptosporidium induced tissue alterations. The scientific meeting was attended by 170 researchers from TBRI, Ain Shames University, Cairo University, American University in Cairo and National Research Centre.

Prof. Eman El-Ahwany (Egyptian MOU coordinator), Head of Immunology and Therapeutic Evaluation Department, TBRI, proposed training programs between TBRI and University of Basque Country to raise skills of TBRI young researchers in the field of molecular biology, immunology, microbiology and parasitology.
