Signing a New MOU between NIPD, China and TBRI, Egypt

Signing a Memorandum of Understanding between

National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (NIPD), China and

Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, (TBRI)


A high-level delegation from the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (NIPD) and Shanghai Public Health Clinic Center of the People's Republic of China visited Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) on April 14th, 2019. During the delegation’s visit, Prof. Wafaa Kandeel, President of TBRI and Dr. Xiao-Nong Zhou, director of NIPD, China signed a second memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will be extended to year 2022. They also unveiled a plaque from the Ministry of Science and Technology of People's Republic of China (National Center for International Cooperation in Tropical Diseases) that recognizes TBRI as an international partner with NIPD. The Deputy Chinese Cultural Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of China in Cairo attended the unveiling ceremony. TBRI and NIPD have established collaboration since signing the first MOU in 2014. On the sidelines of this visit, Medical Malacology, Immunology & Pharmacology Labs, TBRI organized a joint scientific meeting under the auspices of Prof. Wafaa Kandeel. The theme of the meeting was “Trends in the Diagnosis, Control and Prevention of Tropical Diseases” focusing on methods of diagnosis, control and prevention of communicable diseases. More than 130 researchers from TBRI, different Egyptian research centers, institutes and universities attended the meeting. In coordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, the Chinese delegation visited the snail research station of the Medical Malacology Lab in addition to the watercourses manifested with snails intermediate hosts of schistosomiasis at Ismailia Governorate, Egypt
